Life in Gaza is unbearable. Many are starving.
Some are missing food for days while the powerful turn away.
Others have eaten their last, too weak to scream at the injustice.
Hunger eats from the inside.
The starving are not seen pulled from the rubble, bloodied.
Starvation makes no noise.
The Great Famine in Ireland happened in years. The Gaza famine in 100 days.
Why we fast
We fast in solidarity with the living and the dead of Gaza.
How we fast
Each of us fasts for 24 hours. To be followed by another.
We eat no food over these 24 hours. Water is allowed.
Food as a weapon of war
The Israelis want to force the Palestinians into submission by bomb, bullet and bread.
The horror of the genocide against the Palestinian people being livestreamed from Gaza to our mobile phones, computers and television screens — the first genocide in history where its victims are broadcasting their own destruction in real time in the desperate — so far vain — hope that the world might do something
Ms Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh, King’s Counsel, on the argument of urgency and potential irreparable harm to the International Court of Justice
“The war in Gaza has brought famine with such incredible speed”
Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)

Who should not fast
Fasting is not appropriate for some.
Most people are likely to have health benefits from occasional 12 to 24 hours fasting, especially if they carry on drinking water as normal.
- But people with significant long term illnesses, acute illness or general frailty should avoid fasting.
- People with diabetes who take medication, especially insulin, for the condition must not fast.
- If you are unsure if fasting is safe for you please contact your GP who will know more about your health
Aims of our fast
Locally
- Raise awareness of the hunger, starvation and approaching famine that has befallen the people of Gaza
- Show solidarity with the people of Gaza in this period of extreme deprivation
- Get support from people we meet to pressurise our elected representatives to call for a ceasefire to restore food supplies to Gaza. Without a ceasefire there can be no or very little access to food and water.
- To raise funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians.
Elected representatives
- Demand that our elected representatives join the call for an immediate ceasefire
- Demand that our elected representatives call for the immediate supply of lifesaving food and water to Gaza
For Gaza
- Immediate access to Gaza for food and water, delivered by land, sea and air.
- Immediate and full access to Gaza for trucks gathering at the border with Egypt
- Medical treatment for those starving in Gaza
- An immediate ceasefire is the only way to get sufficient food to starving Gaza. This is what Gaza needs to prevent more extensive famine and restore food supplies to Gaza:
